President Mike started the meeting at 12:15 PM and Chuck said a prayer for those who had a “tough December”, for those who prepare our food, serve it and eat it.

  1. Jon Schwartz spoke about the Adopt A Family project in Red Bank and asked everybody to donate $20 which would buy food and clothing for the poor. He asked that all presents be brought in on Thursday December 17th.
  2. Bill Donnelly also discussed the By-Law amendment(s)
  3. We voted for the new list of officers for next year
  4. Warren spoke about some important concepts discussed at the October 9th Rotary Leadership Institute involving membership, community presence, world service projects
  5. Harry said that we should promote businesses that support Rotary, and therefore we should let people know that Lowes has helped us with projects and should be recognized and we should frequent their stores for our shopping needs.

INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBER:  Joe Greca received great recognition for inducting new member DARREN MILLS, an attorney & CPA in Shrewsbury, specializing in elder law.  He is a transferring member of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary Club, and has already signed up for the Canathon.  We all wish Darren congratulations! 
Speaker:  Doug Eagles – who spoke on the topic of Kids in Crisis. He is the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County which is the premier youth development agency, providing professionally staffed, state-of-the-art facilities that are beacons of hope, inspiration, and opportunity where children and teens thrive academically, physically, and emotionally. Kids learn about creative ideas intended to subtly have them learn more and better, and should learn while having fun. 
He enumerated the following points and discussed them extensively in dealing with children in crisis:

  3. Evaluate 
  4. Restructure 
  5. Cast Vision 
  6. Build Your Team 
  7. Execute

Speaker: Dawn Lenz and Cora Manzo from IEP Youth Services, a 501 (c)3 charity that helps children where there is no control or due to problematic behaviors. This organization has a network of therapeutic Host Families developed to provide a stable, nurturing environment for youth who need out-of–home placement. Clients are carefully selected and trained to assume the role of family members. They are registered in the local school systems and are encouraged to participate in the school and communities activates and are urged to obtain part-time employment, age providing. Weekly counseling and case management is employed. Twenty-four hour support if available to Host Families. IEP grads have gone onto college, technical institutes, Armed Forces and independent living.
