Speaker:  Club Assembly. Joe Greca did a monumental job of hosting the program awarding our Past President’s Award and Honorary Rotarian Award to David Prown.  He mentioned that the committee composed of Al C. and Mike T. unanimously decided that David would be this year’s recipient.  Joe also thanked Don for assisting with any legal and other advice.  Joe is a master host and we are all fortunate that he was able to make this presentation.

David Prown spoke very eloquently, everything being adlibbed.  He noted that he is the third generation Prown at the store in Red Bank, predated by first his great uncle, Jacob, and then his father’s cousin, Ed Strauss, who was a pillar in Red Bank, and a member of Red Bank Rotary for many years until he passed away.  David also received an honorary degree from Brookdale Community College.

David suggested one participates in sports, recreational and educational programs for our youth, regardless of their financial ability.  David spends between 2-4 hours PER DAY with youth programs.  He donates sports equipment and calendars to the community. DAVID PROWN IS A GIFT TO RED BANK.   He thanked us, his grandfather and Ed Strauss for him being the successor to Prowns.

    Finally, David noted the following:
  • 85% of students get free or reduced cost lunch
  • Summer program – a YMCA – consisting of swimming and fitness
  • There are theater programs
  • There are 120 children in these program

Diane Rotendelli presented our club with a check for $1604 from the Lombardi Dinner Committee.
