Well People, here I am again. I enjoy filling in for old Warren and it is always nice to be asked to do something that you’re really good at.
It has been awhile since I have done this. Some new guy started off the meeting today, and I had to ask who he was? Turns out he is Ken Skaggs, and apparently he is the Prez-elect. I didn’t realize we were that thin on the depth chart but I guess we are. Turns out he did as good a job as that other new guy, Mike Dee.
After the normal singing and pledging, Bill returned thanks for us. Ken led us in the 4-way test which he read very well. Then lunch was served.
Lunch consisted of Gazpacho soup (cold tomato) followed by Chicken Milanese and then apple pie. My portion of the chicken could have fed three people, and I am ashamed to say I ate the whole thing.
Guests at the meeting included our old friend from Tinton Falls, Dave Legg. More about him later. Also with us were Chris Ryan and Eric Anderson, both returning to figure out if this club is for real.
Only one celebration which was Butch Perry’s anniversary. That was yesterday and we can only hope that Butch remembered.
Sgt. Jim went around the room fining everyone. I don’t know why we just don’t raise the cost to $22 and eliminate the need for Jim to think up these irrelevant reasons to extract money from club members. That will probably cost me a buck next week, if Jim knows the meaning of irrelevant.
Dave “underwater” Legg gave us an update about our District’s water project in Kenya. He indicated that it was about to get off the ground and reminded us that our Foundation gave money toward the project. He indicated that he would be going to Kenya to look in on the project and would come back and report how well our funds are being spent.
Happy $$$ were given by Harriet, Rob, Rhonda, Gloria, Doc, Jim and Mike. Some of you remember back to when I could remember what the people gave the money for. Not anymore. I’m just glad I remembered everyone’s name.
Some announcements. Next week the District Governor, Dave Forward, will make his annual visit to our club. First of all, Dave is a great speaker, and I am sure he will have an interesting message for us. More than that, however, it means a lot to a Governor to have a good turnout for his meeting. Make an effort to attend, it will be worth it.
August 17th is the Gift of Life Annual Dinner Meeting, and there are 10 from the club attending. The 20th we are honoring Agnes DeFelice as “Honorary Rotarian”. There is no meeting on the 27th because the picnic is at the track on the 28th.
Our speaker for the meeting was Chris Blankenship from the Partnership for a Drug Free NJ. Chris talked to us about drug testing in businesses and some of the pitfalls that could befall a company for not having a clear drug policy. His organization will come out to your company and help set up a drug enforcement policy that will be compliant with all the federal and NJ rules.
There was a lucky 50-50 winner today who was me. With sleight of hand, I pulled the two of clubs from the deck. So much for me being a big winner, but I still made $80 so it wasn’t all bad. TTFN.
