Speaker: Jake Whelan (Rotarian Spring Lake) – spoke to us about Medicare. He said that Part A there is no premium but a deductible of $1260.00 (for a 60-day period after beginning of illness). After 60 days, must pay $315 per day; days 91-150, must pay $630…that is why everybody needs a supplemental (also known as medigap) insurance policy. Part B has a 104.90 deductible (depending upon income) from SS payments each month. If it is not deducted from SS payments, will cost $159/mo. beginning January, 2016. A pamphlet called Choosing a Medigap Policy should be carefully read (can get brochure online). He said that if you don’t buy a supplement at age 65, you may be denied if you have a medical condition.
50/50 $50 went to Harry – picked a card, but no cigar; 6 cards left

Here is something interesting that Gail Abrams brought to my attention:
On Sunday evening, Sept. 27, there will be a rare type of lunar eclipse that hasn't happened since 1982.
It is called a supermoon total lunar eclipse, and over the last 115 years there have only been five of them.
Total lunar eclipses are pretty rare — this Sunday's event will be the last one we see until 2018 — but a supermoon total lunar eclipse is significantly rarer because you have two events that already don't often happen taking place simultaneously: a supermoon and a total lunar eclipse.
Starts 9:07 p.m.

Speaker: Past Presidents Day- Joe Greca did another eloquent job of introducing the program for today, asking each of the present past presidents to come up and speak a bit of what they remember and what went on during their tenure. Joe noted that each had a vision for their reign, and said that each term is certainly a year of service above self. He thanked Mike Toscano and Steve Sanfilippo for their help for this project. He also thanked Harriet for maintaining the Past Presidents banner. Finally, it was noted that our club was founded in 1921 and will be 95 year old next year. Mike continued and said it was an honor to serve with Joe… and introduced each past president, as follows:
Roger Fitzsimmons (1973-4); Norris Horseman (1976-7); Pete Genovese III – (1992-3); Jay Patock (1977-8); Frank Mazza (1984-5); Joe Greca (1987); Jim Mullevey (1988-9); Don Steel (1991-2); Jack Chesbro (1993-4); Horton Hickerson (1994-5); Addie Schmidt (2000-1); Tom Zapcic (2005-6); Steve Sanfilippo (2007-8); Harriet Primack (2008-9); Barbara Mullen (2009-10); Bill Donnelly (2013-14); Denise Benbrooke (2014-15).

Speaker: Mike Duffy, Personal Trainer, spoke about the Six Keys to Healthy Weight Loss. Mike captured our attention and spoke about how to loose weight by just modifying one’s diet, which included the following steps:
- Eat the least amount of carbs you need each day- never eat carbs alone
- Do not eat wheat or foods with gluten – eat chitin binding sections and potatoes, rice, rye, tomatoes and barley
- Do not eat cow dairy – other foods supply calcium besides dairy – almond milk, oat milk, rice milk, goat’s milk, quinoa milk, and flaxseed milk (no soy milk). For cheese, one can eat goat cheese (goat cheddar, goat mozzarella, goat feta), buffalo mozzarella, sheep cheese. Yogurt alternatives – goat’s milk yogurt, sheep’s milk yogurt, buffalo milk yogurt, almond milk yogurt, coconut milk yogurt (no soy milk). A good substitute for ice cream is coconut milk ice cream
- Eat less as the day goes on
- Eat according to your blood type
- Drink plenty of water
- Bonus – eat organic as much as possible
