Speaker Bio - Sheriff Shaun Golden

Shaun Golden is the 76th sheriff of Monmouth County and is the chief executive of the 605 member, $68 million agency which consists of three divisions: law enforcement, communications and corrections, as well as the administration of the Monmouth County Police Academy and the Office of Emergency Management, which played the lead role in preparing for Superstorm Sandy and coordinating the response and recovery efforts during and after the storm.

Sheriff Golden is a lifelong resident of Monmouth County and brings with him a wealth of experience in law enforcement and public administration with over 20 years’ experience in law enforcement. He holds a master’s degree in administration from Seton Hall University, is a NJ Certified Public Manager and an adjunct professor at Monmouth University with the Department of Political Science and Public Policy. The Sheriff has been instrumental in promoting shared services in Monmouth County, specifically through the expansion of the Communications Division, to cost effectively address the ever increasing needs of Monmouth County’s first responders.

Along with his law enforcement experience the Sheriff is an experienced EMT, certified paramedic and volunteer firefighter. He worked as a paramedic with MONOC at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and later with Life Unit at Community Medical Center. He was responsible for establishing the paid EMS for the Toms River Police Department and as Sheriff he established the countywide EMS Task Force through the Office of Emergency Management.

Speaker Biography - Kevin J. Burke, Jr.

Monmouth County resident since 2000, married with two teenagers, ages 18 and 17.

Mr. Burke has experience in law enforcement and community outreach. Mr. Burke retired from the New Jersey State Police holding the rank of Major in 2010 after over twenty-five years of experience, after holding various positions within the organization to include multiple command level positions. These positions included Troop Commander of the Garden State Parkway, Bureau Chief of the Executive Protection Bureau and Traffic Bureaus.

Mr. Burke is also very active with many non-profit organizations. Mr. Burke serves as a member of the Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee for Special Olympics New Jersey, as the Chairman of the annual Polar Bear Plunge for the past 21 years. The 2015 Polar Bear Plunge alone raised over 1.6 million dollars and had over 5300 brave souls brave the 38-degree waters. Mr. Burke also serves a Board Member of the Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski Memorial Fund and chair of the Crime Stoppers program here in Monmouth County.
