Speaker - Keith Buff
Keith is AVM (arteriovenous malformation) survivor.  AVM is a defect in your body that can lead to death, Keith’s happened in his head; they had to drill a hole in his head to drain the blood and close of the bleed. This was devastating to his family.  In 1999 his doctors told him he would never speak and be stuck in a wheelchair. It took him five years to recover.  Little things taken for granted (i.e., picking up a playing card) became impossible for him to do. He wrote a book called, "Determination". Keith said, “People can’t tell me they had a bad day after hearing my story”.  There is more work for him to do, but he will never stop trying to improve.  Many people came out to help his family by offering to drive or bringing food.  His medical bill totaled over 1.6 million dollars.  Keith stated, without major medical or disability he would not be able to meet his obligations. In his view, life is filled with lemons; it is up to you to make lemonade.  We should not take life for granted.  Accordingly to his Doctors, he survived because he was in good shape. His best feeling was being able to drive again, freedom!  No matter how bad you think your life is, there are others who have it worse. Keith ended with, “I talk like Cookie Monster, walk like Frankenstein and am happy I don't look like big bird!"

Need back up drivers for Career Day

Speaker: Pastor Isaac Friedel
Pastor Isacc started the Jersey Shore Dream Center, he was influenced by a trip to the inner city in LA.  LA has the largest homeless community in US. They started a mobile food truck for people who could not get to a food pantry. A major need turned out to be diapers, so they started a diaper pantry.  10,000 diapers are used every month.  Dream Center found that addiction was a big issue, especially in a Asbury Park. They raised enough money and started a women's recovery house, because there were no addiction facilities just for women. Amber an (inspiring) recovering addict spoke, about her four children and how she was pan handling on the streets.  She developed a friendship with a woman who told about the Dream Center.  She got arrested and decided to change her life.  Amber then got in contact with the Dream Center. She spent a year in their program, got sober and changed her life. Mary McNeil is director of the Dream Center.  She got the call a few years ago and left her corporate job to work for the Dream Center.  She discussed all the things that the Dream Center does to help people.  They work to help with unmet needs in community.  Community outreach, hunger and youth outreach are the main problems she focuses on. We wish them well in their endeavors.
